I’m a super big sucker for barns, having basically been raised in one! The Barn at Gibbet Hill is just stunning, with gorgeous wood beams, rustic deck and rolling green hills as a backdrop. Steps from the town center of Groton, Mass, you can see the famous Groton School campus in one direction and nothing but pasture in the other.
Amazing shout out to Justine Johnson Photography for having me along on this wedding! There’s a chance we had too much fun as the night seemed to fly by! This was the first time we worked together (yay!) and were pretty giddy about it!
Mary and James are one of the sweetest couples, having been together 3 years. And while Mary’s family is from the South, you would think that James was already one of theirs fitting naturally into their dynamic.
First looks are fantastic as they give the couple a private moment to share, and allow for time before the ceremony to do some formal shots. The bonus being that the couple gets to enjoy cocktail hour instead of being whisked off for a photo session!
I’ve never seen so many people in one family, so we ended up doing formals both before and after the ceremony! But what a fun group! It was hardly a chore, although I’m now contemplating investing in a megaphone! Seriously, there must have been 60 of them!
I don’t think words are even needed here. Such amazing beauty!
As the light faded, the fun began as the barn was converted to the reception hall. I don’t think there was a single face that wasn’t smiling!
Mom even made a cake, which she was incredibly modest about but I find it hard to believe that it wasn’t amazing!
Thanks again to Justine, Mary and James for including me in a wonderfully joyous day! A great way to start off the wedding season in New England!
